Local Competitive Advantage Training Initiative

LOCATI is a programme to transfer skills in Local Economic Development (LED) to local stakeholders in various locations in Mpumalanga Province, South Africa. LOCATI is sponsored by InWEnt and conducted by Jörg Meyer-Stamer and IFOK (Henning Banthien, Constanze Helmchen). It started in November 2001 and ran until September 2003. The goal of LOCATI is to enhance local stakeholders' ability

  • to stimulate local economic development initiatives
  • to support local actors in their effort to create employment and income
  • to professionalize the management of local and regional development and organize strategic alliances
  • to leverage the potential and competitiveness of local firms
  • to leverage the potential of the national and international economy for the locality and, the other way around,
  • to enhance the locality for external investors.

  • private sector stakeholders
  • NGOs and associations
  • specialised consultants
LOCATI - The Methodology

Local Competitive Advantage Training Initiative addresses three aspects which are essential for LED initiatives.

LOCATI-Triangle

Currently, LOCATI is actively involved in five municipalities: Barberton, Lydenburg, Middelburg, Nelspruit, and Secunda.
